Abstract

This study aims to describe some pedagogical strategies that can be done by teacher or lecturers to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of laboratory learning so that they can develop autonomy and creativity of student and minimize budgets in carrying out practical activities. This research is a preliminary research which is based on a literature review, with a laboratory theme. The results of the study revealed that several strategies that can be done as alternatives in laboratory learning include: (1) the use of virtual lab and digital video demonstration, (2) laboratory learning through the Mutation Based Learning (MBL) approach, (3) implementing relevant local cultural elements in laboratory modules, (4) describing authentic research experiences and barriers and (5) and combining several methods in hans on laboratory activities. The first strategy can be used as an alternative implementation of laboratory activities that can minimize the use of pratical budget, while the second to fifth strategies are allegedly able to further develop students autonomy and creativity in the implementation of biological laboratory activities
