Abstract

Walang leaves (Etlingera walang (Blume) R.M.Sm.) empirically can be used as a medicine for stomach pain which is thought to occur due to E. coli bacterial infection. The purpose of this study was to determine what secondary metabolites were present in walang leaf infusion (E. walang) and the minimum inhibitory content (MIC) and minimum killing rate (KBM) of walang leaf infusion against E. coli bacteria. The research method included making E. walang infusion, screening phytochemicals and continuing with antibacterial activity tests with various concentrations namely 0.024%, 0.049%, 0.098%, 0.195%, 0.391%, 0.781%, 1.563%, 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5 %, 25%, and 50% using the dilution method. Data on the results of plant determination, manufacture of phytochemical screening infusions and dilutions were analyzed descriptively. Walang leaf infusion contains secondary metabolites of flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, saponins and tannins. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) at a concentration of 50% with a % cell death of 41,046%, whereas in cotrimoxazole against E. coli bacteria the MIC value was obtained at a concentration of 0.391% with a % of cell death of 92,806%. The value of Minimum Killing Content (KBM) of walang leaf infusion did not have bactericidal activity against E. coli bacteria, whereas cotrimoxazole had bactericidal activity against E. coli bacteria at a concentration of 50%.
