Roads serve as crucial transportation infrastructure that significantly contributes to people's mobility, fostering economic, social, cultural, and national stability, as well as efforts to equalize and distribute development. In many large cities, especially in developing countries, traffic congestion is a major problem. Traffic delays are a common issue in Serang City, particularly at intersections, both signalized and unsignalized. This study aims to identify the causes of traffic delays and the road capacity at the unsignalized four-way intersection on Jalan Mayor Muslich.
The Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI) 1997 was used as the methodology. Data collection was divided into two categories: primary and secondary data. A traffic flow survey was conducted at the research location for 12 hours over a period of three days: Monday, June 24, 2024, Wednesday, June 26, 2024, and Saturday, June 29, 2024.
The results showed that the peak hour (busy hour) at the intersection occurred on Monday, June 24, 2024, during the morning period from 07:00 to 08:00 WIB. Based on calculations using the MKJI 1997, the intersection capacity (C) was determined to be 2435 vehicles per hour. The degree of saturation (DS) was 0.48. The delay (D) was found to be 9.9702 seconds per vehicle with a level of service C. The percentage of queue probability (QP%) had a lower bound of 10.25% and an upper bound of 23.46%.
